The Jane Matovu Foundation aims to break the cycle of poverty in Lwengo District, Uganda, by providing educational opportunities and holistic support to talented students from underprivileged backgrounds.

We offer scholarships, mentorship, and sustainable family initiatives to empower students and their families while fostering long-term community resilience.

The Foundation was established in 2024 by Emmanuel Nsamba, a postdoctoral scientist at Stanford University, inspired by his own journey from rural Uganda to academic success in the United States.

Named after his mother, Jane Matovu, the Foundation reflects her commitment to education through sacrifice and perseverance.

We provide scholarships for elementary, middle school, high school, and college students, covering tuition, school supplies, uniforms, and other educational expenses.

We also offer mentorship and family empowerment initiatives to help create sustainable support systems around students.

The Family Support Initiative Fund is a long-term program designed to empower families through income-generating activities such as agriculture, livestock keeping, and retail trade.

The goal is to help parents support their children’s education while creating long-term financial resilience within communities.

• $600 funds a full year of middle school education.
• $1,000 funds a full year of high school education.
• $1,000 covers a full year of college tuition.
• $500–$1,000 can provide startup capital for a small family business.

Jane Matovu is Emmanuel Nsamba’s mother, whose sacrifices and commitment to education inspired the Foundation.

Her motto, “You don’t have to be rich to take kids to school – it only requires sacrifice,” continues to guide the mission of the Foundation.
